Canada’s Full Time Centre team drops final exhibition match

BUENOS AIRES (September 28, 2012) – Canada’s Full Time Centre men’s volleyball team lost  25-14, 25-22, 25-22 to Buenos Aires Unidos, a professional team in the Argentinean professional league, in its final match on a three- week tour in the South American country on Thursday night.

Canada’s top scorers were Nicholas Hoag of Sherbrooke, Que., with 11 points and Steve Gotch of Okotoks, Alta., with nine.

The Canadians struggled with Argentina’s serve early on in the match but once they adjusted their game improved.  Canada was able to stabilize its block-defence and put pressure on its opponent as well.

“It was a high quality match,” said Canada’s head coach Vincent Pichette of Gatineau, Que.  “I was pleased with how our players regrouped in the first set and fought hard to solve Argentina’s strategy.”

Canada also played in the World Challenge Volleyball Cup in Mar del Plata last week and placed fifth.  The FTC members train full time at the national training centre in Gatineau.

The Canadian team returns home on October 2 and resumes training in Gatineau on October 8.
