Broder and Valjas remain in contention at final World Tour stop

BANGSAEN, Thailand – Jamie Broder of Victoria and Kristina Valjas of Toronto posted a win and a loss on Thursday to open the main draw at the final stop on the FIVB World Tour circuit in women’s beach volleyball.

The Canadian pair is assured to at least equal its best result this season on the circuit and can move even deeper into the tournament with a victory on Friday in the repechage round.

On Thursday, Broder and Valjas opened with a 19-21, 21-19, 15-12 victory over 21st seeds Jantine van der Vlist and Merel Mooren of the Netherlands.  In the second round, the 12th seeded Canadians fell to number-five Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas de Freitas of Brazil 22-20, 21-11.

On Friday, Broder and Valjas face 11th seeds Miller Elwin and Henriette Iatika of Vanuatu.  If the Canadians win they move to the 13th place draw and if they lose they will place 17th which equals last month’s result at the circuit stop in Finland.
