Bansley and Maloney remain undefeated at Olympic test event

LONDON – Heather Bansley and Liz Maloney of Toronto are among 10 undefeated pairs so far in round robin play at the FIVB Beach Volleyball International, the Olympic test event for next summer’s Games.

Bansley and Maloney, seeded firth,  improved to 2-0 defeating Alejandra Simon and Andrea Garcia Gonzalo of Spain 21-19, 21-19. They are tied for first in their pool with Australians Natalie Cook and Tamsin Hinchley. The Canadians and Australians square off for top spot in the pool on Thursday.

It was also a good day for 10th seeds Kacie MacTavish of Sharon, Ont., and Julie Rodrigue of Quebec City who evened their record at 1-1 defeating Josephine Nammanda and Alice Gitta Okecho of Uganda 21-15, 21-5.

Jamie Broder of Victoria and Ashley Voth of Winnipeg are 0-2 and must win Thursday to remain in contention for a playoff berth.
