Bansley and Maloney place 17th at beach volleyball World Tour stop
ALAND, Finland- Heather Bansley and Elizabeth Maloney of Toronto completed their season on the World Tour beach volleyball circuit on Thursday placing 17th following a loss to Spain in their first repechage match.
The Canadians, seeded 24th, opened main draw play Wednesday with a win and loss and had to go through the losers bracket to get back into the medal round. They fell to seventh seeds Liliana Fernandez Steiner and Elsa Baquerizo Macmillan of Spain 21-17, 21-18.
All three of their opponents this week were top-10 seeds.
It was solid season overall for the Canadians on the circuit and featured two top-10 finishes including a seventh place at the Canadian stop in Quebec City. They were also 17th at the world championships two months ago in Rome.
Bansley and Maloney return home to continue training, competing and working towards their quest to gain a spot at the 2012 Olympic Games.
