Bansley and Maloney miss elimination round
KLAGENFURT, Austria – Heather Bansley and Liz Maloney of Toronto won their final round robin match but just missed making the elimination round on Thursday at a stop on the FIVB beach volleyball circuit.
Bansley and Maloney, seeded 24th, defeated 25th seeds Liliane Maestrini and Angela Vieira of Brazil 19-21, 21-19, 15-5. They finished the round robin with a 1-2 record, the same record as the Brazilians and an Austrian pair but ranked fourth for their points for and against ratio.
The Canadians posted a 3-2 record overall this week and will ranked 25th here after top-10 finished at the two previous stops on the World Tour.
Kacie MacTavish of Sharon, Ont., and Julie Rodrigue of Quebec City made a giant step here to qualify for the main draw. They went 0-3 in the round robin and did not advance.
