Bansley and Maloney eliminated in round of 16

SHANGHAI- (May 4, 2012) Heather Bansley and Liz Maloney of Toronto were eliminated in the round of 16 on Friday in women’s competition at the third stop on the FIVB World Tour circuit in beach volleyball.

The top-ranked Canadian pair lost to third-seeds Larissa Franca and Juliana Felisberta Da Silva of Brazil 21-16, 23-21. Bansley and Maloney end the tournament with a 3-2 record overall.

At the opening two stops on the tour, Bansley and Maloney were 17^th and seventh and are in contention to land an Olympic spot through the FIVB World Tour rankings. The top 16 at the end of June earn a ticket to London. The Canadians are currently 20^th.

The next stop on the tour starts Tuesday in Beijing.
