Ashbridges Bay to host 2011 Canadian Beach Volleyball Championships

OTTAWA – Volleyball Canada announced today that Ashbridges Bay in Toronto will host the 2011 Canadian Beach Volleyball Championships August 26-28. It is the sixth time the venue has hosted the event.

"We are excited to return to Toronto this year for beach nationals,’’ said Mariève Millaire, Volleyball Canada’s national events coordinator. ‘’Ashbridges Bay is a great venue for this event combining ideal location and a high quality venue."

Competition will be held for men and women in the 14 and under, 16 and under, 18 and under 21 and under and senior division 1 and 2 categories.

The competition is a major highlight in the beach volleyball season and traditionally attracts the cream of the crop of Canada’s top beach players.

That includes defending champion Martin Reader of Comox, B.C., and Chaim Schalk of Red Deer, Alta., for the men and Liz Maloney and Heather Bansley of Toronto for the women; pro tour regulars Richard Van Huizen and Christian Redmann of Toronto and Marie-Andrée Lessard of Ville LaSalle, Que., and Annie Martin of Sherbrooke, as well as world junior champions Garrett May and Sam Schachter, both of Toronto.

More details on the competition are still to come. Visit www.volleyball.ca to stay updated.
