Argentina collects third victory over Canada in women’s volleyball



BUENOS AIRESArgentina earned a third consecutive victory over Canada in women’s international volleyball 25-17, 26-24, 25-21 on Friday night to clinch this week’s five match series.

The Canadians took the first match of the series on Monday in five sets but the Argentineans have come back strong with wins on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

The Canadians, ranked 24th the world, are currently tuning up for the FIVB women’s world volleyball championships set for October 29 to November 14 in JapanArgentina, ranked 19th, did not qualify for the worlds.

"We started again with a different line-up and the goal of the first week of the tour is to give everyone a chance to play,” said Canada’s head coach Arnd Ludwig.  “We did some things really well, but individually unforced errors ruined our end result."

Brittney Page of Vernon, B.C., led Canada with eight kills, Tammy Mahon of Holland, Man., added six while Nadine Alphonse of Montreal and Tiffany Dodds of Lucky Lake, Sas., added four and three kills respectively.

“We are trying to focus on the process,” said Mahon, the Canadian team captain. ‘’We believe that our performance will improve but right now it’s been hard to find a rhythm."

The five-match series concludes on Saturday.
