‘MTS Super-Spike Smashes Records With $118,000 Raised in Support of National Women's Volleyball Team’

WINNIPEG (August 7, 2012) – ‘MTS Super-Spike presented by Bud Light’, is thrilled to announce that it has smashed records again, raising an incredible $118,000 in support of the National Women’s Team through this year’s eleventh annual event.   A further record 342 teams took part in this year’s Super-Spike, which took place July 20th and 21st at Maple Grove Rugby Park.  Over 700 games of volleyball were played over the two day event, with ten different bands & various DJ’s performing at what has become one of Manitoba’s premiere summertime festival weekends.

“Super-Spike has again lived up to its track record of being one of the best summer events that Winnipeg has to offer,” stated Event General Manager Greg Paseshnik.  “We are thrilled with the event’s growth and record registration numbers again this year, and most importantly with the large amount of money we were able to bring in to support our National Women’s Team.”

"The profits from this event have become incredibly valuable in supporting the training and competition expenses of the Winnipeg based Women's National Team and it cannot unfold without the efforts of the numerous volunteers, our dedicated organizing committee, our partners at Maple Grove Rugby Park and the event sponsors," added John Blacher, Volleyball Canada's National Team's Director of Operations.

‘MTS Super-Spike’, which combines Manitoba’s largest outdoor/beach volleyball tournament with a weekend long concert series set in a festival atmosphere, has raised over half a million to date in support of the Winnipeg based National Women’s Volleyball Team.

Special thanks to event title sponsor MTS, presenting sponsor Bud Light, volunteer sponsor Birchwood KIA, event sponsors Yagermeister, Whisky Dix, Pieffe Design, and event supporters Upperdeck Sports Bar, the Pembina Hotel and Cruise Media.
